BRITTANY VERNON


Background

Brittany Vernon designs and implements user-friendly and accessible web and mobile interfaces for various products and services. Brittany holds a Bachelor of Arts in Digital Enterprise Management from the University of Toronto Mississauga and a Certificate in Digital Communication and Media/Multimedia from Sheridan College, both completed in 2020. She also holds a Certificate of User Experience from Nielsen Norman Group. Her core competencies include Web Design, User Experience Design, and Interface Design.

In her most recent role, Brittany worked with a cross-functional team of developers, product managers, and marketers to understand the user's needs, create wireframes and prototypes, conduct usability testing, and deliver high-quality designs that enhance user experience and satisfaction. She collaborated with other UX designers to share best practices, feedback, and ideas for improvement. Home Trust provides access to a wide range of financial products*, including mortgages, credit cards, deposits and retail lending. Home Trust Company helps Canadians achieve their financial goals.
While working at Home Trust Company I:

  • Led external pilot testing for a mortgage web application with customers to validate front end design and functionality to increase client retention by 30%.
  • Designed a website help center from inception to production to reduce the number phone calls made to the call center.
  • Led UX/UI QA testing of a banking account opening form to ensure development matched expected front end design by stakeholders.
  • Collaborated with developers remotely and in-person to create website and phone application designs within technological constraints.
  • Led digital banking customer survey about customer pain points and gathered qualitative and quantitative research to increase customer satisfaction

Work💼: Digital Marketer @ UpOnline

UpOnline has been helping businesses in healthcare, small/medium business, real estate, and charity sectors to harness the power of the Internet to build their online presence using a full stack of tools, services, and industry best practices.
While working at UpOnline I:

  • Assisted the client manager in parsing data and analyzing results for websites and social media posts.
  • Built email templates via Dreamweaver using HTML and CSS.
  • Managed, created and scheduled social media postings for Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn.

June 2020

I started my post secondary studies when I was accepted to the Univeristy of Toronto St. George campus. I spent one year studying Computer Science, and then made the switch to Digital Enterprise Management (DEM) at the Univerisity of Toronto in Mississauga. During my time in DEM, I learned to to utilize digital technologies to solve business management and organizational problems in creative and innovative ways. In addition, I learned traditional managerial disciplines such as finance, risk management and project management.

In my final year of study, I took a course titled "Exploring User Experience" where I explored issues related to user interface, user experience, materiality, gamification and game theory. This course prompted me to learn more about design processes and how to apply the tools and techniques in many other domains.

June 2020

My time at Sheridan College helped me develop tacit skills related to design. I learned the foundations of communication theory and creative project planning skills necessary to create design solutions. I developed skills such as effective research, web design and marketing. I also learned how to code and host websites using HTML, CSS and JavaScript. (Which helped me to code this website 😀)

Work💼: Graphic Designer @ EmpowHERto

EmpowHERto is a Toronto-based nonprofit that works with girls and young womxn to provide them with the tools needed to succeed and influence positive systemic change, through programs encouraging independence, self-confidence and leadership.
While working at EmpowHERto I:

  • Created and designed various materials for print and digital collateral including: social media posts, templates website banners, Powerpoint slides, and logos.
  • Worked with a wide range of media and used graphic design software such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Canva.
  • Collaborated with team members across departments across the organization to complete design projects.
  • Created vector fonts and typography via Adobe Illustrator for print and web use.

  • Followed a brand guideline to create advertising for Instagram, LinkedIn and web using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.
Work💼: Graphic Designer @ Erin Mills Fitness

Erin Mills Fitness was a gym whose mission was to improve and enrich the quality of life of people from all fitness levels, by creating a memorable fitness experience and inspiring a healthy lifestyle.
While working at Erin Mills Fitness I:
